The Pittsburgh Pirates snapped a three-game losing streak and avoided a Chicago series sweep with a 6-2 victory over the Cubs Thursday afternoon at PNC Park. Bryan Reynolds returned from paternity leave to hit a two-run home run and a double, driving in three Pirate runs in the game. Gregory Polanco and Cole Tucker added two hits each.
Pirate starting pitcher JT Brubaker allowed one earned run in five innings to earn his first career Major League Victory.
Reynolds and his wife Blair welcomed a baby boy this week – their first child.
The Bucs will meet the Cincinnati Reds in a seven-inning doubleheader this afternoon. First game begins at 4:05pm. Pre-game can be heard on WISR 680am beginning at 3:40pm.
Pirate first baseman Josh Bell has been announced as the team nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award – given to the player who best represents the game with positive qualities on and off the field.
