The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Miami Marlins 5-1 last night to open a four-game series in Florida. Pirates starting pitcher Mitch Keller allowed just the one Marlins run on five hits over seven innings. It was the longest start of Keller’s career. Yerry De Los Santos earned his third save of the season by getting the final four outs of the game. Kevin Newman led the Pirates with three hits, including a double.
The Bucs and Marlins play again tonight at 6:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:15pm. Chris Stratton will start the game for the Pirates. He has not started a game since 2019 when he was a member of the Los Angeles Angels.
The Pirates have lost outfielder Bryan Reynolds to the 10-day Injured List with an oblique strain. Reynolds left Sunday’s game in Milwaukee with right side discomfort in the seventh inning. His spot on the Pirates roster was taken by Jake Marisnick, who returned from injury and played last night. Marisnick had a double and home run in his return.
