The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Washington Nationals 7-3 Sunday afternoon. Jared Jones earned the victory, allowing two runs on four hits over seven innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out nine. The Pirates split their four-game series, after the Nationals swept a Saturday doubleheader.
Sunday’s game featured the debut of utility-player Billy Cook, who two hits and drove in two runs in his major league debut. Cook was acquired from Baltimore in a minor-league deal at the trade deadline. Andrew McCutchen hit his 19th home run of the season.
The Pirates host the Miami Marlins tonight at 6:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:15pm. Paul Skenes will start tonight.
