The Pittsburgh Pirates made a significant roster move on Saturday, as they traded starting pitcher Gerrit Cole to the Houston Astros.
The Astros, who are the defending World Series Champions, send pitchers Joe Musgrove, Michael Feliz, third baseman Colin Moran, and outfielder Jason Martin.
Musgrove, who is 25, was in the bullpen for the Astros for the better part of 2017, but pitched in the playoffs and World Series. Moran was a first round draft pick (2013), and has a career batting average of .290 in the minor leagues. He also has some big league experience.
Feliz, who is known as a strong armed pitcher, struck out 13.13 batters per nine innings last year, but also finished with a 5.63 ERA. Martin, an eighth round pick in 2013, is currently in double A.
The 27-year-old Cole went 12-12 for the Pirates in 2017, as he finished the season with a 4.26 ERA and 196 strikeouts in 33 starts. He was the first overall draft pick in 2011.
