The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the San Francisco Giants 3-1 last night to win their fourth straight game. Shortstop Liover Peguero hit a solo home run to tie the game at 1-1 in the fifth inning. It was his first homer in the majors since September of 2023. He also drove in the winning run on a ground-out in the eighth inning.
Pirates starting pitcher Bailey Falter allowed one run on just two hits over five innings. Rookie Braxton Ashcraft earned his third victory with three scoreless innings. Dennis Santana pitched a perfect ninth inning for his sixth save.
Tommy Pham led the Bucs with three hits and scored a run. He is now batting .273 to lead the team.
Last night’s victory gave the Pirates back-to-back road wins for just the third time this season. The road victory was just their 14th this season, tied with Colorado for the worst in the majors.
Since being swept by the Chicago White Sox at PNC Park, the Bucs have won seven of their last eight games.
The two teams complete their series this afternoon at 3:45pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 3:20pm.
The Pirates have an off-day Thursday, then open a three-game series against Colorado in Denver Friday night.
