The Pittsburgh Pirates won their third game in a row following a 6-5 victory over the San Francisco Giants last night. Andrew McCutchen hit a game-winning two-run home run in the seventh inning last night.
David Bednar earned his 17th consecutive save by closing out the ninth inning, the longest-active streak in the majors. The save came with excitement, as Bednar gave up three hits and a run before getting the final out.
Starting pitcher Mitch Keller turned in his shortest outing of his 22 starts this season. He went just two innings after throwing 73 pitches. He allowed three earned runs on five hits and walked three.
Giants top pitching prospect Carson Wisenhunt made his major league debut in the game. He gave up a solo home run to Nick Gonzales, the third batter he faced in the first inning. The Bucs tagged him for four runs over five innings. Gonzales had two hits along with Tommy Pham to lead the Pirates.
The Bucs and Giants play again tonight at 9:45pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 9:20pm. Bailey Falter will start for the Pirates. Justin Verlander starts for the Giants.
