Friday night was a great night for Pitt Panther fans.
On the Men’s basketball side, the Panthers came back from being down as much as 8 points in the second half to defeat the #25 ranked North Carolina Tar Heels, who began the season as the #1 ranked team in the nation.
The Panthers took a lead with 4 minutes remaining, and led 76-69 with 10 seconds, holding on to defeat the Tar Heels 76-74. Jamarius Burton led the scoring for Pitt with 31 points and Black Hinson scored 16.
In the Sun Bowl, Pitt overcame several deficits against the #18 ranked UCLA, including being down 28-14 after a 52 yard pick-6. They would come back to take the lead in the 4th quarter, 34-28, before giving up a touchdown to make the score 35-34 in favor of UCLA.
With only 34 seconds left the Panthers, led by QB Nick Patti, marched down field to set up a 47 yard field goal by Ben Sauls to secure the Sun Bowl at 35-34.
Pitt Basketball will pick up again after New Years on Tuesday when they face the #13 ranked Virginia.
