The Pittsburgh Riverhounds have reached the United Soccer League championship game following a 1-0 victory over Rhode Island to win the Eastern Conference Saturday night. Pittsburgh native Robbie Mertz scored the game-winning goal. Mertz graduated from Upper St. Clair high school and went on to play collegiately at Michigan.
The Riverhounds will meet FC Tulsa in the championship game Saturday at noon. Tulsa defeated New Mexico United 3-0 in the Western Conference championship.
