A police officer is recovering after his vehicle caught on fire following a chase in Armstrong County.
State police say they pulled over a vehicle driven by 23-year-old Clark Proctor Jr. of Michigan for traffic violations on Route 422 in Kittanning Township Monday evening around 6:15 p.m.
According to police, Proctor smelled of marijuana and appeared impaired so they asked for him to get out of the vehicle. That’s when police say he took off, and led them on a chase.
Police tried a pursuit intervention technique to stop Proctor, however the first one failed and the police car crashed into a tree and caught fire.
A second attempt at the maneuver was successful and Proctor was taken into custody.
At latest report, the officer was in a Pittsburgh hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
