A restaurant in downtown Butler was damaged Wednesday night when a police vehicle hit the front of the building.
According to Butler City Police, the accident happened just before 9:30PM. A city officer was responding to a different accident involving a vehicle vs. a bicycle on Center Avenue. The officer was driving southbound on Main Street with his emergency lights and siren activated. According to the police officer, when he approached the Cunningham St. intersection, he saw the traffic light was flashing and proceeded through the intersection.
At the same time, a Jeep drove through the intersection traveling east bound. The Officer had to swerve to avoid a collision with the Jeep but then lost control and drove over the sidewalk hitting the front of Butler Penne, which sits at 201 South Main Street in downtown Butler. A number of witnesses on the scene verified the account. The Jeep driver returned to the scene and spoke with officers.
No one was injured in the accident, but the crash did cause windows in the front of the building to shatter. The full extent of the damage isn’t known.
The patrol vehicle also sustained damage.
