The Postal Service is changing its process for postmarks.
The new process will now show the date the mail is first processed at a machine hub, opposed to when the mail was first received.
This could impact some time-sensitive mail, such as taxes and mail-in ballots.
To get a same-day date, customers must request a manual postmark inside the Post Office or use certified mail.
