Following the impeachment of President Donald Trump for the second time, local lawmakers are offering their reaction.
Republican Mike Kelly of Butler voted against impeachment.
“I don’t believe President Trump committed an impeachable offense when he told those at the rally to protest peacefully and make their voices heard,” Kelly said in a statement Wednesday night.
“He did not tell them to commit violence, and he and all of Congress have rightfully condemned the rioters who breached the U.S. Capitol.”
Fellow Republican Glenn “GT” Thompson of the 15th Congressional District also voted against impeachment.
Democrat Conor Lamb, who represents Cranberry Township, voted to impeach the President. He said in a statement that Trump is a “clear and ongoing threat to our community, our military, and to our government.”
