The Butler County Prison is applying for grant funding that would install a full body detector.
Prison officials say the scanner costs $162,000, however the grant would cover $156,000 toward the purchase. The county would pick up the remaining amount.
Officials say the scanner would help detect contraband that is coming into the prison. It also has an integrated thermal scanner, that would help identify a fever and allow officials to test for COVID.
The funding would come through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime.
