A new project will aim to help improve fish habitat in a waterway at a Butler City Park.
During their meeting Thursday night, Butler City Council approved a motion to send a letter in support of the Connoquenessing Watershed Alliance to install new habitat improvement devices in and along a tributary of Sullivan Run within Memorial Park.
According to CWA President and local educator Dave Andrews, improvements made with help from the PA Fish and Boat Commission will be similar to those recently completed in Alameda Park.
Councilman Jeff Smith sees many benefits to improving flood control and bank stabilization at no cost to the city.
Smith said, “This will be huge for Memorial Park. It will make just one more amenity down there plus it’s good for the creek bed and it’s free. So, it’s a win all around.”
The project is expected to get underway in the spring of 2022 and take about two weeks to complete.
