A state lawmaker has proposed a bill that would rename a bridge in the City of Pittsburgh after an all-time great Pittsburgh Steeler.
The proposed bill would rename the Fort Duquesne Bridge after Pittsburgh Steeler Franco Harris.
Harris played for the Steelers from 1972 to 1983, winning four Super Bowls and was the key part of what the NFL called the greatest play in league history during the leagues 100-year celebration, “The Immaculate Reception.”
The bill’s memo also featured noted Harris’ off-the-field character as the reason for the honor.
During his life outside of football, Harris worked with March of Dimes, the Pittsburgh Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Easter Seals, the Special Olympics, and Pittsburgh Promise.
The goal is to have the bridge renamed as Pittsburgh hosts the 2026 NFL draft.
