Lawmakers are calling it “bell-to-bell” legislation that would require schools to implement all-day cellphone-free policies.
Supporters of the bill say smartphone usage has skyrocketed among teens, leading to issues with mental health and a drop in grades.
A number of local schools have tightened their cellphone policies, but this would implement a statewide requirement.
A similar bill has been proposed before, but has not gotten any traction in the Pennsylvania Senate.
