Pennsylvania’s Department of State continues to make changes to ensure that no votes are discarded due to unintentional errors.
Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt recently announced that the design of provisional ballot envelopes has been modified to be more user-friendly.
Using feedback from county elections officials in several areas of the state including Butler, the redesigned envelopes feature a layout that clearly instructs voters which fields must be filled out, including highlighting two places where the envelope must be signed.
The envelopes also improve the process for election workers by identifying which fields need completed before and after the voter submits a provisional ballot. Grant money is available to help counties with the cost of replacing old envelopes with new ones.
This update follows a redesign of mail ballot envelopes and materials in 2023 that resulted in a 57% decrease in mail ballot rejections last year.
