The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission is moving forward with a plan to remove older, at-risk plastic piping in natural gas systems.
The commission approved a final order last week that will speed up the process to identify higher-risk pipes.
It will require every regulated natural gas utility to provide a detailed inventory of their plastic pipes and components.
The move comes as the PUC continues additional efforts to eliminate other risky materials in the natural gas system, like cast iron and unprotected steel.
