The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission is observing “Lifeline Awareness Week” across the state by trying to encourage income-eligible residents to stay connected with available assistance.
Lifeline is a federal program that can provide a benefit of $5.25 per month for qualifying households to use towards landline or wireless voice charges or $9.25 per month to use for internet service.
The Emergency Broadband Benefit is another income-based assistance program started by the FCC to provide discounts for internet service or equipment.
The $5.25 Lifeline support for standalone Lifeline voice service is scheduled to be eliminated in certain geographic areas beginning in December.
