A group of concerned local citizens plan to hold a rally today in downtown Butler ahead of a ruling by a judge.
The group Save Slippery Rock Creek plans to gather at the Butler County Government Center at 9 a.m. today in opposition to a special exception permit for a cold asphalt plant.
This permit was originally approved by the Slippery Rock Township Zoning Hearing Board last year but an appeal of that decision is being heard by Butler County Judge Michael Yeager.
Saver-based Hei-Way LLC would like to conduct heavy industrial activity on a 14-acre parcel of land zoned light industrial. The residents are concerned about noise and air pollution as well as toxic wastewater being discharged directly into Slippery Rock Creek.
