The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 last night in Game 7 of the National League Championship Series. The Diamondbacks won both Game 6 and Game 7 in Philadelphia after losing both of the opening games of the series there. The Phillies had been 12-2 at home over the past two playoff seasons, including a perfect 11-0 in National League playoff games.
Arizona will meet the Texas Rangers in the World Series beginning Friday night. Arizona has reached baseball’s championship series for the first time in 22 years. The Rangers are there for the first time in 12 years. In their only appearance in a World Series, the Diamondbacks defeated the New York Yankees in seven games in 2001. The Rangers have never won a World Series.
