The New York Rangers defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 last night at PPG Paints Arena. With the victory, the Rangers have taken over second place in the Metropolitan Division over the Pens by one point. The Pens took a 1-0 lead after the first period. The Rangers scored two goals in the second period, and made it 3-1 with a power play goal early in the third period which decided the game. Tristan Jarry stopped 23 of 26 shots for the Penguins. Brian Boyle and Sidney Crosby scored the Penguins goals.
The Pens are now 1-2 against the Rangers in their four-game regular-season series with the final regular-season meeting set for April 7th. The Pens head west to face Minnesota Thursday then travel to Colorado Saturday.
The Penguins honored retired Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger at the game last night. He did a drop back pass approach to the ceremonial puck drop to begin the game.
