Friday is World Blood Donor Day and the American Red Cross is celebrating with donor promotions through the end of this month.
Anyone who donates at any June blood drives will receive a $15 e-gift card to a merchant of their choice. The next local opportunity to donate blood is Wednesday from noon to 5 p.m. at the Meridian Fire Hall.
Although over 2 million people volunteer to give blood every year with the Red Cross, blood donations are typically low in the summer months as many people take trips and have other activities going on.
Anyone able to donate should make an appointment through the website of the American Red Cross, the Red Cross Blood Donor App, or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.
