The Cincinnati Reds defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-3 last night. The Pirates held an early lead thanks to first inning home runs by Colin Moran and Philip Evans, but the Reds scored three runs over the seventh and eighth innings to pull out the victory. Reliever Sam Howard took the loss, when he allowed a seventh inning home run to Nick Castellanos. J.T. Brubaker started for the Pirates and allowed just one run on three hits over four innings. He walked four and struck out six.
Bryan Reynolds also homered for the Pirates, who fell to 1-3.
The Bucs and Reds play again tonight at 6:40pm. Trevor Cahill will make his Pirates debut on the mound. The two teams play again tomorrow at 12:35pm, then the Pirates will head back to Pittsburgh and prepare for their home opener Thursday against the Chicago Cubs.
