A local lawmaker is sponsoring a bill that would freeze the cost of living adjustments for public officials across the state through 2021.
Republican State representative Tim Bonner who was elected last year to represent parts of Butler and Mercer counties is supporting this move due to the financial turmoil caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
House Bill 2487 would affect members of the General Assembly, the governor, lieutenant governor, state treasurer, auditor general, attorney general, commissioners of the Public Utility Commission, senior members of the executive branch, and the judiciary.
Bonner pointed to the many sacrifices being made by state residents as a reason why this is no time for public officials to be accepting a raise. This proposal is currently being considered by the House State Government Committee.
