Congressman Mike Kelly is recognizing the longtime relationship between the United States and Ireland.
Kelly along with Massachusetts Congressman Richard Neal serve as co-chairs of the Congressional Friends of Ireland Caucus. They introduced a resolution that commemorates the 100th anniversary of U.S.-Ireland diplomatic relations.
It was established on October 7, 1924 when the Irish Ambassador Timothy Smiddy presented his credentials to President Calvin Coolidge.
Kelly, who is of Irish descent, says the bond remains strong between the two countries, and calls for continued strengthening of relations between U.S. and Ireland.
“Like many in the United States, I’m proud to trace my roots back to Ireland,” Kelly said. “As we mark the 100th anniversary of United States-Irish diplomatic relations, it’s important to remember the role that our Irish ancestors played in developing the United States and the role that so many still play today as we chart our future together.”
