Local young people are receiving recognition as part of a nationwide STEM, coding, and computer science contest.
At a presentation in Butler last week, U.S. Representative Mike Kelly named Knoch High School students Quinlin Howison and Elijah Seybert winners of the 2023 Congressional App Challenge. Their app called The Funny could receive national recognition.
A team of three students from Knoch High School were named second place winners for their app Homewrecker. Two other teams of Knoch students tied for third place. Knoch High School educator Laura Gaston received a commendation from Kelly for leadership during the contest.
This contest is an opportunity for high school and middle school students to show innovation, creative thinking, and problem solving skills. The Congressional App Challenge began in 2014 to encourage students to learn how to code. This is Kelly’s 5th year participating.
