Congressman Mike Kelly is putting his support behind a bill that he says will protect law enforcement officers with federal penalties.
The Protect and Serve Act will create federal penalties for anyone who allegedly targets a law enforcement officer and willfully harms an officer while committing a crime. If convicted an individual could face a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
Kelly says his support for this bill makes in clear on where he stands on this issue, “I’m proud to stand with law enforcement and to support this bipartisan piece of legislation,” Kelly said in a statement.
In 2018, the bill passed in the house by a vote of 382 to 35.
