Legislation being advanced by a local lawmaker would allow animal grooming services to reopen across the state of Pennsylvania.
Republican State Representative Marci Mustello’s House Bill 2436 has passed the House Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee and will next move to the full House for consideration.
Mustello maintains that her bill is about preventing animal neglect with nails needing to be trimmed to prevent paw and leg injuries, fur requiring care to prevent matting and skin irritations, and ears needing to be cleaned to prevent infections. Not every household has the equipment or ability to accomplish these tasks.
Mustello said that she drew on her time as former executive director of the Butler County Humane Society when thinking about the kind of care necessary for the well-being of our animal friends.
