Local residents learned more about the potential sale of the Butler Area Sewer Authority at two Butler Township meetings Thursday.
Employees of PA American Water were joined by Butler Township officials and over 30 residents at the Municipal Building for an exchange of information about the details of a recent $231.5 million offer.
“I thought the meeting was informative,” Butler Township resident Michael Braunstein said about the possible sale. “I was happy with what I heard. I was never against the sale, because I just don’t think BASA has what it takes to make the changes that need to be done.”
With $75 million to be invested in repairs over the span of five years, local municipalities will continue to have a say in how this process is implemented.
PA American Water Representative Gary Lobaugh spoke about the history this company has with the Butler community. “
We provide wastewater service to 19 counties across the Commonwealth and we focus on delivering the same high quality wastewater service as we do on the water side,” Lobaugh said. “We’ve been in business in Butler County since the late 1890s and since our time here we’ve grown to know the communities we serve and we focus on providing a high level of service.”
Both Butler City and Butler Township along with the board of the Butler Area Sewer Authority are expected to vote on this proposal in the near future. If passed, the next step in the process is an application to the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission.
