A large number of Butler Township residents attended Tuesday night’s meeting of the Planning Commission to voice opposition to a possible parking lot in the very early planning stages.
Township officials recently directed soil testing to be done on an approximately three acre piece of property near Preston Park on South Eberhart Road that is owned by the Township to determine if a lot could be constructed there to allow for more people to visit the park.
Although the parking lot was not on the Planning Commission agenda, about 40 residents attended the meeting with over 10 addressing public comment and questions to the Butler Township solicitor.
Soil testing allows for more information to be gathered about the site before a decision is made about a possible use. If the Township decides to move forward with such a plan, it would be brought before both the Planning Commission and Township Commissioners at public meetings.
