The Pittsburgh Pirates opened their three-game series in Chicago with a 5-3 comeback victory last night against the Cubs. The Pirates were down 3-0 entering the eighth inning when Bryan Reynolds hit a three-run home run to tie the game, and Andrew McCutchen followed with a solo home run two batters later to give the Pirates the lead.
It was the 22nd home run of the season for Reynolds. McCutchen now has 18 home runs.
Pirates starting pitcher Jared Jones did not figure in the decision. Jones allowed three earned runs while pitching into the seventh inning in his second start since returning from the Injured List. Former Pirate Jameson Taillon pitched seven shutout innings for the Cubs, allowing three hits.
The Pirates are now 8-12 in their last 20 games. The Bucs and Cubs play again tonight at 7:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 7:15pm. Paul Skenes will start tonight’s game.
