Robert Morris University has announced 10 of its 15 varsity athletic programs will join the Horizon League as of July 1st. In particular, the move will stiffen the competition in basketball – with the likes of Youngstown State, IUPUI, Wright State and others competing in the Horizon League.
The Colonials won the Northeast Conference tournaments in both men’s and women’s basketball last season.
The Horizon League does not have football. Thus – the RMU football program will compete as an independent this fall – then join the Big South Conference. The Big South features teams from New Jersey to Alabama.
