A local school has recently received national recognition for achieving environmental excellence.
Rowan Elementary School in the Seneca Valley School District has been awarded designation as a Green Ribbon School.
Rowan is one of only three across the state as well as the only PA public elementary school and the only western PA school to receive this honor from the U.S. Department of Education.
The school was recognized for innovative efforts to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, improve health and wellness, and offer effective sustainability education. Among the efforts of Seneca Valley administrators at Rowan are a composting initiative, hydroponics and gardening boxes, and air purifiers.
