Several local schools will be receiving state funding to help improve safety.
South Butler Area School District has been awarded over $400,000 through the School Safety and Security Grant Program. This program has also designated $45,000 for Butler Area School District as well as $35,000 each for Karns City and Slippery Rock Area School Districts.
Grant money can be used for security planning and purchasing of security technology along with completing safety and security assessments and district wide school safety hazard plans.
The School Safety and Security Grant Program was created as part of a School Safety bill signed into law in 2018. Nearly $54 million from the current state budget was set aside for school safety improvements.
