The process of moving the model Brooklyn Bridge in Saxonburg has begun and along with the wire shop all the work could be complete later this year.
There was a possibility the bridge was going to be placed in to storage but now the bridge will be moved to a cement slab where the old “KDKA Dog House” was located.
The process of taking apart the bridge to move it started last week and later this week a crane will be moving parts of the bridge, according to borough manager Steven May.
“Friday, we have the big lift planned. We categorized, labeled, and alphabetized the stones,” May said.
The borough is still seeking an additional $5,000 to $10,000 for skilled labor and to replace some damaged stones with the bridge.
The wire shop will also be receiving repairs this year and expectations are both projects will be done some time this year.
“They’re talking four to five months. There’s a lot of water mitigation we’re going to have to do in between there, along with cleanup to ensure its preserved the way we want it,” May said.
The borough raised $95,000 and received a $150,000 grant to repair the wire shop but work could not begin until the bridge was disconnected from the wire shop.
