This week marked 45 years since the fatal shooting of Saxonburg Police Chief Gregory Adams.
It was on December 4, 1980 when Adams made a routine traffic stop in the parking lot of the Agway on Butler Street in Saxonburg.
Adams got out of his vehicle and approached the driver of the car, who gave him false documents. That’s when the suspect fired shots at Adams, who was able to fire back.
However, Adams died from his injuries.
Police named Donald Eugene Webb as the primary suspect. In 2017, Webb’s wife eventually revealed to the FBI that Webb was buried in their backyard. He died in 1999 and was never arrested for the crime.
A monument commemorating Adams can be found in Saxonburg.
