Senator Bob Casey is throwing his support behind a bipartisan bill that would crack down on the drug Xylazine.
The drug, also known as tranq, is a veterinary tranquilizer that is being used as a low-cost cutting agent for fentanyl.
Casey says the drug has been growing in popularity in eastern Pennsylvania, especially in Philadelphia.
The new bill would move xylazine to a Schedule 3 illicit substance and enable the DEA to track its manufacturing to ensure it’s not being sold in the illegal market.
