A local lawmaker is maintaining the importance of high speed internet access for all Pennsylvania residents as well as the funding necessary to make that expansion.
Republican State Senator Scott Hutchinson recently agreed with Governor Tom Wolf that the need for expansion of service exists but he expressed disagreement with how the expense will be paid for.
Hutchinson called broadband expansion a “top priority” that should be funded with “existing resources as opposed to…additional state borrowing”. Hutchinson takes issue with the elimination of $5 million in funding for the Unserved High-speed Broadband Funding Program in the Governor’s proposed state budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
An estimated 800,000 Pennsylvanians do not have access to reliable high-speed internet access.
