Legislation put forward by a local lawmaker that would protect first responders while they are engaged in fundraising is advancing.
Senate Bill 1053, authored by Republican State Senator Scott Hutchinson and a Democratic colleague recently received unanimous approval by the Pennsylvania Senate.
The new bill would ensure volunteer fire and EMS personnel are covered by workers’ compensation when participating in fundraising activities. Hutchinson maintains that the same workers’ compensation standards should apply to the necessary task of fundraising as are applied to the rest of their essential work.
This bill now advances to the State House.
