Senator Dave McCormick is showing support for the proposed deal between Nippon Steel and U.S. Steel.
President Donald Trump said last Friday he would support the $14 billion deal between the two organizations.
McCormick said on CNBC the proposed investment into U.S. Steel will also be combined with heavy involvement by the United States.
“It’ll be a U.S. CEO, a U.S. majority board, and then there will be a golden share, which will require U.S. government approval of board members to ensure production levels are not cut and things like that,” McCormick said.
McCormick also said this deal will not only save jobs, but create jobs.
“This saves about 10,000 jobs—about 4,000 steel workers and surrounding jobs,” McCormick said. “But beyond that, it’ll add 10,000 jobs to build a new arc furnace.”
President Trump will be in Pittsburgh at the U.S. Steel Irvin Works plant this Friday evening.
