The majority leader of the State Senate is weighing in on Governor Josh Shapiro’s proposed budget for the fiscal year.
Speaking to the Pennsylvania Press Club, Republican Senator Joe Pittman of Indiana County called Shapiro’s budget “fairly reasonable,” but also expressed concern over the amount of spending.
“The governor’s budget proposal as he put forward readily acknowledges that on the track of spending that he would like to take, that our budget surplus would be fully exhausted in the next four to five years,” Pittman said. “And I can assure you that the Senate Republican caucus finds that to be unacceptable.”
Pittman says he’s hopeful for a “common sense product” by June 30th, but said he’s not committing to making sure the budget is complete by that point.
