The race to officially declare the winner of Pennsylvania’s seat in the U.S. Senate will be decided by a recount.
An announcement from the Pennsylvania Department of State has confirmed that the race between Democratic incumbent Bob Casey and Republican challenger Dave McCormick falls within the one half of one percent threshold to trigger the recount by law.
Counties must begin the recount no later than this Wednesday (11/20) and conclude by noon on Tuesday, November 26th. A recount has been carried out four times since 2004 including the 2022 Republican primary for U.S. Senate when McCormick lost to Dr. Mehmet Oz.
McCormick currently leads Casey 48.93% to 48.5% but over 80,000 ballots remain uncounted. The recount is expected to cost over $1 million.
