Legislation from U.S. Senator Bob Casey regarding an incarcerated Butler County native in a Russian prison has passed.
The bipartisan resolution that calls for Marc Fogel’s immediate release from Russian detention passed the Senate with unanimous consent Wednesday after it was introduced last July.
Fogel was teaching overseas in August of 2021 when he was detained for carrying about half-an-ounce of legally prescribed medical marijuana to treat back problems. Since that time, Fogel has been serving a 14-year sentence in a Russian hard labor camp.
Casey stated that Fogel’s health is “rapidly declining and his life is in danger” while encouraging the Biden administration to “do everything possible to bring Marc home”.
