Governor Josh Shapiro announced a new energy plan that he says will create nearly 15,000 jobs and lower utility bills for Pennsylvanians.
According to the Governor this plan would generate a $5.1 billion investment into clean energy and save rate payers $252 million.
The plan would establish a “cap and invest” program called Pennsylvania Climate Emissions Reduction Act (PACER) that would see a reinvestment into lowering consumers electricity bills. Shapiro says 70 percent of revenue from the program would go back to Pennsylvania’s electric bill.
It also creates the Pennsylvania Reliable Energy Sustainability Standard (PRESS) which will look for investments in clean energy from the federal government. Helping create 14,5000 jobs.
These new initiatives and plans come after the RGGI plan put in place by Governor Tom Wolf was ruled an unconstitutional tax by the Commonwealth Court.
