Governor Josh Shapiro has signed an executive order to ensure Pennsylvania is ready to act in case of emergency.
The order directs the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency to work with state agencies to develop plans for a Commonwealth Surge Workforce that can mobilize across multiple agencies in response to future disasters.
The order will also review state laws that need to change to increase efficiencies, state agencies review management policies, and establish the Emergency Readiness Advisory Group (ERAG).
The ERAG director will review all recommendations and determine the best strategies to ensure Pennsylvania has the resources and capacity to meet the futures disasters head on.
This order comes as the federal government moves more emergency responsibilities to the states.
