A bipartisan state grant program for student teachers will debut today that the governor believes will help address a teaching shortage.
The program offers a $15,000 stipend to student teachers.
To qualify for the stipend, students must be enrolled in a PA higher education institution, participate in an approved educator preparation program, have a GPA of 3.0, and work as a teacher at an LEA or non-public school for no less than three years.
Governor Josh Shapiro applauds the bipartisan work done to pass the bill and solving problems in the commonwealth.
“This is a moment to celebrate progress for our teachers and students all across Pennsylvania,” Shapiro said. “I couldn’t be more grateful to this group of bipartisan lawmakers for their extraordinary leadership in addressing this challenge. And I look forward to working with them to going forward to solve these pressing problems.”
