The Butler County Sheriff is warning of another scam circulating the area.
Mike Slupe says that his department has been made aware that a male caller claiming to be Deputy Callithen is telling residents they have missed a hearing with Judge Horan and they need to bring a payment of gift cards to the Sheriff’s Office at the County Government Center.
Slupe reminds residents that no law enforcement will ask for money over the phone with fines paid to the Clerk of Courts or local magistrates offices. Also, Judge Horan has been serving on the Federal bench for over two years.
When the Sheriff’s Office called the 724 area code number out of Scottsdale, it was no longer active. Other numbers could be used so anyone who receives a call like this should hang up immediately.
