A new program in Slippery Rock looks to help those who volunteer as firefighters and EMTs.
The borough council unanimously passed a $250 local income tax credit for volunteer first responders.
The idea was proposed by Slippery Rock Mayor Jondavid Longo in hopes of increasing participation in both volunteer agencies.
Pennsylvania has seen a growing decline of volunteer firefighters and EMTs in the last 40 years—going from over 350,000 to just 40,000.
