Slippery Rock Borough Police are alerting residents to unauthorized solicitation by someone claiming to be with a local utility.
Earlier this week a resident informed police about an encounter with a man claiming to work for West Penn Power who asked to see recent bills, claiming to be able to offer a discounted rate on electricity.
West Penn Power does not engage in this sort of activity and as of Wednesday afternoon, the Slippery Rock Borough Police had not issued a permit for any electric provider representative to do so.
Anyone approached by an individual in this manner should ask to see a permit issued by police and only provide personal information after agreeing to terms on a deal in order to open a new account for service.
